Lake Waikaremoana is above the maximum control level, which is a result of the heavy rain in the Hawkes Bay last week. Water is being spilled from the lake to lower the lake level within its permitted range.

[Update: Sunday 25 September] Unfortunately, there hasn't been enough rain and the release has been cancelled.

[Update: Friday 23 September] Genesis advise that the Whakapapa release has been postponed to Sunday 25. Rain is forecast for Saturday night. A final decision on the release will be made early on Sunday and will be notified here and via twitter.com/whitewaternz.

Genesis Energy have advised that the recreational releases scheduled for this weekend (Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th November) from Whakamarino and Piripaua have been cancelled due to health and safety reasons.

The broken bridge in the river, which is currently posing a significant hazard to kayakers, is expected to be removed soon.
