The release is very likely to proceed tomorrow and the Whakapapa River will probably be at a paddleable level for a few more days. The river is at natural flow (because of the high level of Lake Taupo) and will remain this way until EW instruct Genesis Energy to turn the foreign water back into the scheme. Keep an eye on the Genesis Energy website for rainfall and flows in the Tongariro Scheme.
Be careful out there—the Whakapapa River can rise very quickly, and Genesis Energy can't take any water at present.
This release will only proceed if there is more than 16 cumecs of natural flow in the river at the intake. If there isn't enough water, the following Sunday is a back-up date for the release.
