Kaituna info for last weekend

Hey I paddled the kaituna for the 1st time on the weekend during the Andy Duff Memorial Race.
It was bloody awesome and I coped well. I am wanting to know what the flow level was?
Also which flow levels are too low?, perfect?, High but hard? and too high you will die?
I still consider myself a Grade 3 paddler So if that was an easy flow I dont want to turn up with some mate and get us all smashed up on some crazy flow.
Cheers
Brad

Low flows are perfectly fine, 100's or even lower is sweet!
Open gates definitely gets alot pushier and harder, and some nasty undercuts come into play.
it was around 250 which is about as low as you want to do it. much lower and you start hitting things
It doesn't really get any harder right up to about 600. in fact i think some of the rapids are easier.(although maybe a bit more pushy).
i havn't done it above 600 so cant comment on higher flows. (it needs a lot of rain to get above 600 and then it is usually at open gates if it is(1000 and above)).
so if you coped fine at the race you shouldn't have any problem at higher flows. I find that several rapids that can be sticky lower become flushy at around 400-500 .
myself my favourite flow is prob 550 so far. it's not really harder (as i said some parts easier) but it could be seen as more intimidateing as more water equals faster rapids and more turbulance in general.
in summer you will be lucky to see it above 350-400 very often. stays 200-300 most of summer
Cheers,
Josh
