Hi, I'm flying Thai airlines via auckland, but hopefully air nz will check in my boat at chch (they are good with boats). Normally if you phone the airline they will tell you that you have to pay, but if you turn up early and pack light it will probably be free/negotiable. I have a Mamba which is nice and light, which helps!
Sta travel will cover S+R and medical for non competitive kayaking at any grade, I will prob go with them.
Good luck, might see you out there!

Hi thanks for the info. Im looking at taking my boat with me. Do you no a cheap way to get your boat over? Ive been quoted $600nz so far to take on the plane with me but are trying to make it cheaper. also how do you get on for travel insurance? ive tryed a few companys but not many want to touch you if your not paddling with a registderd company. Im trying a company my mate put me onto called worldnomad.com and am hoping to get covered by them. Medical is all the cover im really after. Any info you can help me with would be primo.
Cheers Johnny
Hi, I'll also be out there in September-early November and will be looking for people to paddle with. Apparently there will be other boaters about and you can hire boats there, but I'll be taking mine out. There's a good guidebook, also there's a post about meeting up with boaters there on the UK kayaking forum: http://www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=64886.
PM me if anyone's keen...?
Cheers, Tom (Christchurch)
