Whakapapa natural flow

Saturday, September 29, 2018 - 10:00 to 17:00

Updated 11:04pm Friday 28 September: Nigel Parry writes, "Whakapapa no take, no go tomorrow. Sorry folks but it has been a dry month on the western side of Mt Ruapehu (the wet side) compared to the eastern side (the dry side). Go figure! That's it for no takes on the Whakapapa this year, but be aware the inflow does spill and sustain for an excellent paddle down the Whakapapa, when there is sufficient water around. You just need to keep an eye on the weather and make sure you're there with a plan B in case there is too little or too much water."
(Backup day for 8 September). Recreational releases from Whakapapa Intake require 16 cumecs or natural flow, whichever is greater. If the expected 16 cumecs is not reached on the planned day of the event, then it is deferred to the back-up day. If there is still insufficient flow on the back-up day, then the event is cancelled.
