A group of us paddled the Waihohonu on 9.11.13. We had been told there was a log in the river and that there was a rope connected to it. We could easily see the rope from the bottom of the rapid above the log, however if the rope hadn’t been visible it could have caused a serious situation as the log is hardly visible from the top of the rapid. We took a saw and some ropes with intention of removing the log however the river level was too high to get to the log safely so we portaged. The log is located 2 – 3 rapids above the main portage, around 1 – 1.5 km’s from the put in. Please be careful as the position that this log is in could cause serious problems for river users and is a nasty pinning hazard.
