I'm a paddler from the states newly relocated to Palmey for a semester. Since I can only buy one boat while I'm here, should I get a creeker or a playboat? For the most part I'll be on the North Island, with one or two South Island creeking runs. At home I spread my time pretty equally between creeking and playing; what is more common/popular around here? Since I don't have a group of paddlers to go with or transportation, I'm more concerned about meeting up with people and getting to the river than I am with what kind of boating I'm doing. I just want to be on the water.

So far I'm leaning toward buying a playboat, with the whitewater park nearby and the ocean surf not to terribly far away. Any thoughts?

Also, I need a PFD, paddle, and throwbag if anyone has them to lend/sell.
