Tips for joining kayaking in NZ

Forums:

Hi

I am coming for November December to NZ and like to explore your country mainly by tramping. But it would be crazy as a paddler as I am not to get known some of the rivers there. Here in Europe I paddle class3 sometimes 4 (Alps/Norway/Germany).

Now Iam looking for kayaks schools or clubs where I can join, because I have no gear with me and I am travling alone. Kayaking alone is no option ;-)
Would like to do some days on both islands or at least a week with nice rivers would be great.

Do you have any hints about:
kayaks schools or guiding (nice people - nice price :-)
rivers (I have to see North/ south Island)

Thanks a lot - Ta
Michaela

Kia ora Michaela,

On South Island contact NZ Kayaking School at Murchison for info on kayaking in that area ( www.nzkayakschool.com )

In Christchurch get in contact with us at Canoe & Outdoor World ( kayak_nz@hotmail.com ). We can help you out with kayaking gear, meeting people to kayak with, etc. We kayak frequently on the West Coast and can provide you with specific info, contacts, places to stay, etc.

Look forward to hearing from you. Enjoy your visit to NZ.
